October 5, 2020 – Challenger Center, a leading science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education organization, presented Breanna Ramirez, a pre-K teacher at Jose Angel Cardenas Early Childhood Center, with the 2020 June Scobee Rodgers Innovative Educator Award on Monday, October 5. The Award, named in honor of Challenger Center Founding Chair June Scobee Rodgers, recognizes outstanding educators who value the importance of STEM education and demonstrate great enthusiasm in teaching STEM subjects.

During a virtual event which included her colleagues and students as well as Challenger Center and Scobee Education Center staff, Ms. Ramirez was presented with $2,500, a signed copy of Silver Linings, written by Scobee Rodgers, and a framed certificate naming her as this year’s award recipient. Only one June Scobee Rodgers Innovative Educator Award is given out annually.

“Every year our Challenger Learning Centers nominate teachers who make a difference in their classrooms and inspire their students to dream big and reach for the stars,” said Denise Kopecky, Vice President of Education at Challenger Center. “We are inspired by Ms. Ramirez’s work to create and provide STEM opportunities for her students who sometimes face many challenges. We are honored to call Ms. Ramirez this year’s June Scobee Rodgers Innovative Educator Award recipient.”

The Scobee Education Center at San Antonio College nominated Ms. Ramirez for her dedication to her students, their families and students across San Antonio. In addition to creating a school-family culture for her students, she has worked closely with the Scobee Education Center to improve programs for students across the region.
