2022 June Scobee Rodgers Innovative Educator Award Recipient Announced

Missouri first-grade teacher recognized for commitment to keeping students engaged in STEM during the pandemic

Washington, D.C. (May 12, 2022) – Lori Kremer, a first-grade teacher at Bermuda Primary School in Ferguson, Missouri, is the recipient of the 2022 June Scobee Rodgers Innovative Educator Award. The award is named in honor of Challenger Center Founding Chair, June Scobee Rodgers. It recognizes an outstanding educator who understands the importance of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, and demonstrates enthusiasm and passion for teaching STEM subjects.

“It’s an honor to present Ms. Kremer with the 2022 June Scobee Rodgers Innovative Educator Award,” said Challenger Center President and CEO Lance Bush. “Ms. Kremer demonstrates a passion for STEM education that not only translates into providing hands-on STEM activities for her students but motivates her fellow educators to seek out STEM programming opportunities as well. She demonstrates a commitment to laying the foundational pathway to STEM careers for students at an early age.”

Kremer was nominated by the Challenger Learning Center-St. Louis. Not only did she participate in nine professional workshops led by the Center, but she brought back STEM activities for students in both her classroom and afterschool activities. When necessary, she delivered materials to students’ homes and connected with Center staff via Zoom to facilitate the STEM experience. Additionally, Kremer recruited additional elementary and middle school teachers to get involved in Challenger Center programs.

Kremer will receive $2,500 as a part of winning this year’s award. Award nominations were made by Challenger Learning Centers across the country.
